Retreat to the Swedish countryside.
Ranarpskvarn is a workshop & retreats studio located in a 17th century watermill on Bjärehalvön, Sweden. It has been used for centuries as a central gathering point for locals as they waited for their grains to be milled, evident in the soft hollow in one of the large stones outside. To do yoga, breathwork, meditate or simply gather in the mill is a magical experience; time is truly not linear, and the ancestral history of Bjäre can be felt in the work we do in it today.

Of crows and vikings.
Ranarpskvarn comes from the old norse word ravn, meaning crow or raven and arp, meaning village or community. The name tells of a history that goes as far back as to viking times, when viking chief Hovall was overseeing the area, doing frequent excursions and conquests in what is now England about 1000 years ago. To keep Hovall from doing more harm the anglo-saxons took their boats, sailed across the ocean and killed him on his home turf, close to Ranarpskvarn. Becuse of this, Ranarpskvarns’ address is Hovall’s Road.

Community building and giving tithe
At Ranarpskvarn we believe a new world has to come, if we are to survive as a species. There is no space in this world for racism and a contempt for the natural world if we are to continue co-existing on this planet. We also believe many of the modern forms of business dealings are outdated; counting profit and monetary gain over material wellbeing, community cooperation and kindness.
Therefore, as part of our business model, we offer our spaces (studio and lodging) for a small self service fee to select activist and educational groups working for the betterment of earth and humanity. We also strive to give tenth; that is donate 1/10 of our profits to organisations that do good in the world, and work primarily with local and fairly priced food producers and contractors.
